Known for their over the top, big beers like Black Tuesday and Chocolate Rain, The Bruery Oude Tart is a bit easier drinking. This Flemish-style red ale is aged in red wine barrels for 18 months before bottling. A nice light sourness with notes of leather and dark fruit along with a nice bit of toasted oak from the barrel aging. No head or lacing from this brew. At 7.5% ABV it still has a bit of kick to it and is on the high side for this style of beer although the ABV doesn’t make itself apparent in the nose or flavor. It’s nice to see more commercial examples of the Flanders Red Ale on the market. We can always use more of this under appreciated style of brew.
