This bottle of Lake Superior Old Man Winter Warmer barleywine is a 2007 vintage and aged nicely. Old Man Winter Warmer is a great barleywine weighing in at 10.3% ABV and at only about $7.99-$8.99 for a 6-pack, a great bargain. Big and complex with a nice smooth alcohol burn in the aftertaste this one is a great sipper in the winter months when it’s released.
Sadly since they changed their labels a number of years back, I swear they also changed their recipes on many of their beers. I use to buy Mesabi Red monthly and really enjoyed it but as soon as the new labels started to appear on the bottles, the beer tasted different. It doesn’t just appear to be me either. I’ve had a couple other people mention the same thing about changes in the flavor of the beers when the labels changed.
