It’s always awesome to see how different ingredients stack up and impact the final brew. With this new series, BlackStack intends to showcase exactly that. Say hello to the first in the series; BlackStack Brewing Building Blocks: Citra & Oats.
Building Blocks: Citra & Oats
The Building Blocks series intends to showcase raw materials. In this first experiment, we’ll see two years of hand-selected Citra & Cryo Citra, along with malted & flaked oats. The base malt and yeast will remain the same throughout. Let’s see how they stack up.
Can-to-cup presents a bright straw yellow. A fluffy white foam builds atop and settles, leaving no sign of lacing.
The aroma is full of overripe pineapple and mango juice. There’s also a touch of sweet orange in the mix.
Huge hop action hits the tongue, bringing smooth and sweet tropical fruit flavors. Juicy ripe pineapple is most plentiful, with sweet mango and a dash of orange mingled in.
Malted and flaked oats lend this a nice creamy mouthfeel. Sweet fruit hangs on a bit after each sip and then subsiding, with only a touch of mango remaining under the rear of the tongue.
Keeping a base beer while alternating ingredients is an interesting way to showcase the impact each has on the final product. It’s exciting to see what BlackStack will brew and this first in the series is an awesome start.
