More and more craft brewers have switched from twist-off caps to pry-off style caps including Sierra Nevada and Summit Brewing. Pry-off caps offer a better seal, online keeping your precious craft brew safer from harmful oxygen leaking in. The downside to these pry-off caps is that one has to remember to carry a bottle opener with them everywhere since you never know when you might need to tip back a beer with friends. That problem has been solved with the EasyOpen design by Gonglue Jiang. A small tab on the bottle cap makes opening easy while offering the same advantages of a normal pry-off style bottle cap. Pretty cools idea from a Harvard University grad.

I don’t know about you but I’ve lacked a bottle opener frequently enough to have learned how to open a beer with a lighter, a spoon or fork handle, a counter top or any number of other items, so I feel like this is a silly invention that will not be popularized.
Not to mention, the nightmare of trying to find a system to cap bottles using these. As a homebrewer, I can already see that a standard capper would bust that tab right off.
Ridiculous and unnecessary.
These are already very popular in Vietnam. Late pass, USA.
I imagine these will only jeopardize the seal by accidental snagging, or bending.
Let’s chalk this up to building a better mouse trap. Some things should just be left alone!
