Town Hall Brewery Foolish Angel

Glass and crowler of Town Hall Brewery Foolish Angel sitting in an abbey.

There are certain beers you circle on the calendar every year. The ones that feel less like a quick pour and more like an event. Town Hall’s barrel aged Belgian offerings have long been in that category for me, and Foolish Angel continues to prove why.

Foolish Angel

Brewed by Town Hall Brewery, Foolish Angel is an aged Belgian style Quadrupel clocking in at 13.7% ABV. It spends time resting in barrels from several distillers, building layers of character before it ever hits the glass. The brewery describes mild Belgian yeast notes with dark caramel, date, maple, fig, red apple, and a slight cocoa finish. It is a contemplative beer by design.

Deep brown mahogany liquid fills the glass, forming a bit of frothy head that settles and leaves little sign it once existed. The color glows warmly when held to the light, hinting at the richness to come.

Yeasty esters greet the nose first, classic Belgian character rising gently from the glass. Sweet candi sugar follows, wrapped in light caramel and dark fruit. Dates come through clearly, along with a warm whiskey presence that feels inviting rather than aggressive. There is just a touch of vanilla and soft oak lingering in the background.

On the palate, layers of light caramel malt roll across the tongue. Dates and red apple bring a subtle, rounded sweetness that never overwhelms. Candi sugar peeks through after each sip, adding depth while the whiskey character works quietly to dry things out. Oak tannins provide structure, and faint vanilla notes drift in and out as the beer opens up.

This one is lovely each year and absolutely rewards patience. As it warms, the flavors expand and soften, revealing even more nuance. Foolish Angel is not a rush through it beer. It is a slow, thoughtful sipper meant for quiet moments and a proper glass. Town Hall continues to show why their barrel aged releases remain some of the most anticipated pours of the season.
