Every year, Town Hall Brewery hosts their Barrel Aged Beer Week. To kick things off this year they released Buffalo Bock. The original name came when the initial cask was mistaken for Buffalo Trace bourbon. In reality this beer was aged in an Eagle Rare Single Barrel Bourbon barrel. The initial name stuck and this weizenbock aged in bourbon barrels was tapped last night while KSTP interviewed Mike and Pete at the pub and Girl Scouts sold us way more cookies than we should have ever bought. Strong bourbon notes at first mellow as you sip more and the brew warms a bit. Light wine like notes in the finish make for a nice sipper. It may still be on tap today but most of these limited barrel-aged brews are a single keg that goes quickly each night when they’re tapped at 6pm. Drop down tonight for Wee Jack, a Scottish wee-heavy aged in Jack Daniels barrels (always a favorite of mine and many others).
