Two Henrys Roasted Jalapeño Blueberry Porter

Craft brewers are always coming up with interesting combinations. Some work, while some are just weird. Fruit and veggies may be a combo your parents tried to get you to eat, but it’s also two of the most frequent worlds brewers turn to when looking for something to make their beer special. So why not have both? Two Henrys Roasted Jalapeño Blueberry Porter does just that. But does it work?

Roasted Jalapeño Blueberry Porter

We’ve seen plenty of roasted jalapeños in beers over the year. They’re a great pairing with the dark and roasty notes commonly found in most porters. Blueberries (or most any fruit for that matter) almost always work with the chocolatey malts found in a porter too. But what about roasted jalapeños and blueberries together?

Two Henrys combines the smokey, roasted jalapeños plus blueberries to make this porter a flavor assault on the senses.

It pours a big head that fizzes easily (maybe a hint of infection based on the way the foam even explodes out of the can and almost overwhelms the mouth), with a purple hue to the brown bubbles.

A nose of roasted grains with light chocolate upfront and then a touch of sweet blueberry makes itself known as the bubbles burst with an almost peppery porter note.

The roasted jalapeños make themselves known right upfront with a quick bit of heat. That taste of peppers is quickly overtaken by the sweet blueberry notes, followed by chocolate malt in the aftertaste. The prickly carbonation bubbles on the tongue and clears away the heat, leaving a slight sweetness from the blueberries and malt.

Prickly Porter

The bubbly brew inside this can of Roasted Jalapeño Blueberry Porter packs plenty of flavor (even if the carbonation is a bit much). The fruit and vegetable combo works well and balances the smokey heat of jalapeños with the sweetness of blueberries.
